Protect Your Skin This Summer

Summer is here, and that means filling your days with the beach, BBQs, lake days, and other summer fun. But while it’s the perfect season to get some vitamin D and enjoy the outdoors, summer can also be dangerous for your skin, and it’s important to protect your skin from the sun. Of course, we all want a nice summer glow, so avoid sunburn and skin damage with these safe summer skin tips.

Wear Sunscreen

Wearing and reapplying sunscreen while you are enjoying the sun is an important part of keeping your skin safe. The UV rays of the sun can damage your skin and cause severe damage and even cancer. Aim to use a sunscreen that is broad-spectrum so it can protect you from UVA and UVB rays. If you are enjoying a day at the water, make sure to reapply every hour.

Put On a Summer Hat

Your face can be extra sensitive to the UV rays of the sun, and too much exposure can dry out your skin and cause aging. Aim to rock a cute summer hat when you are going to be outside for long periods of time. This will protect your face and neck from the sun. If you notice the water and sun are drying out your skin too much, be sure to schedule a HydraFacial to moisturize your face and extract dead skin.

Skip the Tanning Beds

While it might be tempting to hit the tanning beds this summer, they can cause some serious damage to your skin. Get a safe summer glow by using a non-toxic self-tanning cream, or go get a professional spray tan. This will give you the golden tan you want without exposing you to harmful UV rays.

Check Your Skin for Melanoma

It’s important to check your skin for melanoma and to also know what you are looking for. Keep track of moles and spots on your skin, and use the ABCDE rule to identify anything that might require a dermatologist to look at.

Here’s what you should look for:

Asymmetry- If one part of your mole does not match the shape of another.

Border- If the edges of your mole are uneven or blurred.

Color- Look for shades of black, white, gray, red, or blue.

Diameter- If the size of your mole has changed.

Evolving- The mole has been changing in size, shape, color, or appearance.

Be sure to do monthly checks of your moles and note anything that looks out of the ordinary.
